How to Apply

Interested in Volunteering? Please read the information below.   Before filling out an application to become a Master Well Owner, here are a few things that you should know about the program.

1. All volunteers must attend an eight hour training workshop conducted by the Master Well Owner Network and Penn State Cooperative Extension.

2. All volunteers must agree to make their best attempt to educate at least 100 people within two years of time. This education must only be on topics covered during the training workshop and you can educate anyone that owns a private water system (private well, spring, or cistern). The methods of education can include individual consultations with neighbor and others in your community, working at a fair or other community event using the MWON display, giving a presentation to a group that has an interest in private water systems, or by writing articles for your local newspaper.

3. All volunteers must promise to submit at least one report every year to the MWON Coordinator. This report can be done on our online reporting system, via email, or by sending in a handwritten report via fax or mail. In general, it is a good idea to have good communication with the MWON Coordinator.

We welcome anyone interested to apply to the program. A review followed by prompt notification will be given to all applicants. Please do not apply to become a Master Well Owner Volunteer If you can not fulfill any of the above criteria or if you are planning to move outside of Pennsylvania in the near future.

If you are interested in the program, but would like to discuss it further with the MWON Coordinator, please contact Stephanie Clemens at 814-865-2250 or by email at mailto:mwon@psu.edu.
